Xconomy Forum: Peter Brooke and Terry McGuire Discuss A Global Vision for Venture Capital and Private EquityXconomyWednesday, October 21, 2009 from 5:15 PM to 8:00 PM (EDT)Boston, MA |

Event Details
Peter A. Brooke has been called “the Johnny Appleseed of venture capital.” The chairman and founder of Advent International and TA Associates, Brooke is one of the pioneers of the venture industry in New England and the first to successfully introduce venture capital and private equity globally.
At the age of 80, he remains one of the leading experts on how venture and private equity are playing out on the global stage. His forthcoming book, A Vision for Venture Capital, written with Daniel Penrice, chronicles his storied career in venture capital and private equity and provides fresh perspective on the industry’s evolution and how it can fulfill ambitions of helping grow the world’s economies in the twenty-first century.
Mr. Brooke will sit down for an unprecedented one-on-one chat with another of New England’s venture capital all-stars, Polaris Venture Partners co-founder and managing director Terry McGuire, who is also chairman of the National Venture Capital Association.
Their intimate discussion will cover the origins of New England venture capital and its trials and tribulations through boom times and downturns—and then look more broadly at the current and future outlook for private equity and its role in worldwide economic growth.
Is the venture capital model really broken? Are financial markets in need of much more regulation? And how can private equity help pull the world out of recession and stave off future downturns? Nobody who cares about these sorts of questions should miss this up-close-and-personal conversation.
